The best water park in the Canary Islands is Siam Park, in Costa Adeje (Tenerife): the park itself says it has been named the world's number one ten times in Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice awards. On Gran Canaria the big park is Aqualand Maspalomas; on Lanzarote, Aqualava opens all year with pools warmed by geothermal heat; Fuerteventura has only Acua, in Corralejo, and it closes in winter. La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro have no public water park at all.

Tenerife: Siam Park and Aqualand Costa Adeje

Siam Park opens 365 days a year, from 10:00 to 18:00 in summer and until 17:00 in winter. It has the Tower of Power (a 28 m drop and a tube that runs through an aquarium), a wave pool of more than 13,500 m² with water at 24 °C, and a free bus from Los Cristianos, Las Américas and Costa Adeje. What they do not tell you: you cannot bring food in, there is no re-entry, parking costs €7 and towels are for sale (€19.90). From late June to late August it also opens at night (Siam Night, €48), with every slide except the children's areas.

At Siam Park the price is the same everywhere, €44: buying on the official website or on a booking platform makes no difference. The Twin Ticket with Loro Parque (€78) saves €10 per adult and €7 per child compared with two separate tickets, and is valid for 15 days from the first visit.

Aqualand Costa Adeje is the park for families with young children: it has several children's areas, you can bring food (no glass), parking is free and over-65s pay the child rate. It opens every day from 10:00 to 17:00 (until 18:00 in July and August) and has a dolphinarium with a daily show at 15:30.

Here the official website really is cheaper: €35 online against €37 at the gate and on the booking platforms. The best saving is the "2 Parks" ticket with Jungle Park (€51 online). Both parks are covered in full in Siam Park and Loro Parque.

Gran Canaria: Aqualand Maspalomas and Lago Taurito

Aqualand Maspalomas opens every day from 10:00 to 17:00 (until 18:00 in July and August), lies on the Palmitos Park road and is served by Global buses 45 and 70; the 70 comes direct from Puerto de Mogán, Puerto Rico and Faro de Maspalomas. You can bring food in, parking is paid and there is no animal show.

This is the clearest case on the page: on the booking platforms you pay €41, the same as at the gate, and on the park's website dated tickets start at €32. That is €9 per adult. If you want to add Palmitos Park, the combined ticket costs €62. More detail in our Aqualand Maspalomas guide and in the park review.

Los Lagos de Taurito, in Taurito (Mogán), is small, uses seawater and opens 365 days a year from 10:00 to 18:00. It is the budget option (between €10 and €19 depending on season and age; the high-season rate runs from June to mid-September) and the closest to Puerto Rico. At the time of writing its website lists one slide as temporarily closed and there are recent reviews complaining about maintenance: check which rides are running on the park's website before you go.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: Aqualava, Costa Teguise and Acua

Aqualava (Playa Blanca) is the only park on the eastern islands open in winter, because it heats its pools with geothermal energy. It opens from 10:00 to 18:00 in summer and until 17:00 the rest of the year. Sunloungers and parasols are free, lockers cost €5 and the website offers a free transfer to anyone buying tickets for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (Monday to Friday in July and August).

Same price everywhere, €30. What is not worth it is one platform's version with transfer (€42), with a single review, when the park itself provides free transport three days a week.

Aquapark Costa Teguise opens every year from late March to early November. From early April to late May it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; from June until it closes for the season it opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00. There is an afternoon ticket, from 14:00, for €20 (€16 child).

Identical price, €28, on the website and on the platforms. If you are heading to the island, start with our Lanzarote guide.

Acua Water Park (Corralejo) is the only one on Fuerteventura: more than 25,000 m² and more than 14 rides. It closes in early November and comes back in spring: it usually opens the week before Easter (Semana Santa). Watch out for closing days: from mid-April to late May and from September to mid-October it is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On its website a one-day general ticket starts at €23, against €30 on the booking platforms; the catch is that you must buy online at least a day ahead. All the information is in our Acua review and the Corralejo guide.

Canary Islands water parks for kids and babies: height limits and free entry

Siam Park ages 0–2 Sawasdee, Lost City, Coco Beach, no minimum height from 1.25 m; family slides from 1.10 m

Aqualand Maspalomas under 0.90 m Skull Bay, under 1.40 m Hurakan, over 1.20 m
Aqualava — Corsario Bay, 0.60 to 1.50 m Timan Fire, from 1.20 m
Acua under 4 under 1.20 m from 1.20 m; 120 kg max. on rings
Aquapark Costa Teguise ages 1–3 — —
Los Lagos de Taurito ages 0–2 Mini Park —

For babies in winter, the warmest water is at Aqualava and Rancho Texas (geothermally heated) and in Siam Park's wave pool (24 °C). At Acua, under-12s must be accompanied by an adult.

Animals. Aqualand Costa Adeje and Rancho Texas have dolphins, and Siam Park has sea lions at the entrance. Several travel agencies have stopped selling tickets to parks with captive cetaceans; parks such as Loro Parque, from the same group as Siam Park, argue that training gives the animals exercise and stimulation. If you would rather avoid that on Gran Canaria, Aqualand Maspalomas has no animal shows.
