Siam Park and Loro Parque belong to the same group, cost the same and sit at opposite ends of the island: the water park in Costa Adeje, in the south, and the zoo in Puerto de la Cruz, in the north, just over an hour apart by car. If your children are already over 1.25 m and you're staying in the south, Siam Park is the day they'll remember. If they're small, or animals are what you're after, Loro Parque.

If you're doing both, the Twin Ticket saves €10 per adult and €7 per child. And a tip that saves money: no platform sells these tickets for less than the gate price, so choose where to buy by the cancellation policy, not the price.

Our pick

1

Both parks at a discount

The Twin Ticket at the official price, cancellable up to 24 h before; the platform says 14 days' validity and the park 15, so count on 14.

2

Siam Park only

€44, as on the park's website, but cancellable until the day before if the forecast looks uncertain.

3

Loro Parque from the south without a car

€65, exactly the ticket (€44) plus the official coach (€21).

4

Siam Park with no queues and no wallet

All-inclusive at €165: unlimited Fast Pass, food, drink, towel and locker.

Siam Park and Loro Parque: what each one is

Siam Park is a Thai-themed water park of 18.5 hectares, opened in 2008 by the TF-1 motorway in Costa Adeje. It has been voted the world's best water park several years running in Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice awards (ten times, according to the park itself). Its star ride is the Tower of Power: a 28 m drop at up to 80 km/h, ending in a tube through an aquarium with rays. The rest of the park has slides with minimum heights of 1.10 and 1.25 m, the Mai Thai River lazy river, the Wave Palace wave pool (waves up to 3 m) and several children's areas. There are sea lions at the entrance, something to bear in mind if you'd rather not see marine mammals in captivity.

Loro Parque opened in 1972 with 150 parrots and today says it has more than 400 species. What sets it apart are the sea lion, parrot, dolphin and orca shows, the Planet Penguin enclosure with real snow, the aquarium and Kinderlandia for little ones. The park reckons on about eight hours for a visit and doesn't sell animal encounters. Its sister aquarium, Poema del Mar, is on Gran Canaria, not Tenerife.

All three tables say the same thing: GetYourGuide, Tiqets and the official website charge exactly the same. The difference is what happens if your plans change. On GetYourGuide you can cancel free up to 24 hours before and book without paying until three days before; on Tiqets, tickets for these two parks can't be refunded or moved to another date. The official website sells the resident rate and, at Loro Parque, its tickets don't expire. We go into detail in our reviews of GetYourGuide and Tiqets.

The Twin Ticket isn't in your name and is valid for 15 days from the first park, where they put a wristband on you: don't take it off, because at the second park you show it with the QR code. The Siam Park half can be used at Siam Night.

Siam Park Fast Pass, all-inclusive tickets and queues

The long queues at Siam Park are for the Tower of Power and the Mai Thai River, and those are exactly the two rides the Fast Pass doesn't cover.

  • Fast Pass Unlimited: €99 per person, online or at the ticket office, only for the date chosen, no changes or refunds. Entry is not included.
  • Fast Pass Limited: one use per ride; only at the ticket office on the day, with no published price.
  • All-inclusive: €165 (€144 for residents) with entry, unlimited Fast Pass, food and drink in the restaurants (not all alcohol), towel and locker. If you were going to pay for a Fast Pass and eat inside anyway, it works out cheaper.

If the Tower of Power is the reason you're going, join its queue early: no pass makes it shorter.

Siam Park height restrictions: going with kids

Measure your children before you buy:

  • No minimum: Sawasdee, The Lost City and Coco Beach (children's areas).
  • 1.10 m: Mekong Rapids, Naga Racer and the Mai Thai River (on the river, shorter children wear a life jacket).
  • 1.25 m: Saifa, Kinnaree, Singha, Dragon, The Vulcano and The Giant.
  • Tower of Power: the official website gives 12 years and a height you should check on the sign at the entrance before promising it to anyone.

The maximum weight is 120 kg per person, and 110 kg on Jungle Snakes and The Giant. Under 1.10 m, the day is limited to the children's areas, the river and the wave pool.

Siam Park or Loro Parque: which is better for your family

Siam Park if the children are already over 1.25 m, if you're travelling with teenagers or if you're staying in the south, where the free bus picks you up near your hotel and it rains far less than in the north.

Loro Parque if the children are small, or if there are grandparents or anyone who isn't going to get wet. You can bring food, leave and come back in, and the day works even when it's cloudy.

Both with the Twin Ticket if you have a week and a car, or if you're staying in Puerto de la Cruz and going south for a day.

Something cheaper? Aqualand Costa Adeje costs €37 at the gate, has free parking, lets you bring your own food, and over-65s pay the child rate. We compare it with the rest in Canary Islands water parks.

Orcas and dolphins at Loro Parque: the debate

Loro Parque keeps four orcas and eight dolphins in daily shows, and that divides opinion: several travel companies, Thomas Cook among them in 2018, stopped selling parks with orcas, and organisations such as World Animal Protection criticised the park for putting a calf born there into the shows at a few months old. The park replies that an external audit found it fully compliant with ABTA's animal welfare standards, that it holds American Humane certification and that training gives the animals exercise and stimulation.

At the moment there are two orca shows (11:55 and 15:15) and three dolphin shows (11:00, 13:00 and 16:15), so it's easy to plan your visit to see them or to avoid them.

Opening times, rules and what to bring

Siam Park is open 365 days a year. No outside food or drink is allowed, there's no re-entry and you don't get your money back even if the park closes for bad weather. Towels aren't hired out but sold, at €19.90: bring your own. Lockers cost €7 or €10; sunloungers and rubber rings are included, but limited. Siam Night runs from late June to late August, with water at 24 °C, wave sessions at 20:40, 21:40 and 22:40 and free buses from 20:00 to 00:00; the children's areas close.

Loro Parque is open from 09:30 to 17:30 every day, lets you bring your own food, hires out pushchairs (€5) and lends wheelchairs against a deposit. Canary residents buy from the Loro Parque shop or the Siam Park shop.

Are Siam Park and Loro Parque owned by the same company?

Yes. Siam Park belongs to the Loro Parque group, founded in Puerto de la Cruz in 1972; that's why there's a joint Twin Ticket.

How much are Siam Park tickets?

Adults (from 12) pay €44, children aged 3 to 11 pay €32 and under-3s go free. Canary residents pay half with proof of residence.

Are there cheap or discounted Loro Parque tickets?

Not for visitors: €44 on the official website and on the platforms, with no senior or large-family rate. The only saving is the Twin Ticket with Siam Park.

Is the Siam Park and Loro Parque Twin Ticket worth it?

If you're going to both, yes: an adult pays €78 instead of €88 separately, and a child €57 instead of €64; you have 15 days to use both halves.

Can you take food into Siam Park?

No, no outside food or drink. At Loro Parque and Aqualand you can.

How do you get to Siam Park for free?

On the Siam Bus, which leaves every morning from Las Américas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje between 09:30 and just before 14:00, and comes back in the afternoon.
