Naviera Armas no longer sells ferries in the Canaries under its own name. Baleària bought the Canary Islands business of Armas Trasmediterránea and, since 18 May 2026, the inter-island and mainland routes have run as Baleària Canarias, with the same ships, many still called Volcán de… Tickets, timetables and help are at https://www.baleariacanarias.com/en/routes-timetables/.

If you type navieraarmas.com, your browser takes you to armastrasmediterranea.com, which announces "Ahora somos Baleària Canarias" ("We are now Baleària Canarias") and links to the new website. Points and tier status in the Armas loyalty scheme move over to Baleària Club.

From Naviera Armas to Baleària Canarias

Armas was founded in 1941 in Lanzarote, with Antonio Armas Curbelo's wooden cargo boats; it began carrying passengers in 1995 and bought Trasmediterránea in 2018. With Armas, Baleària has some 4,500 staff and more than 50 ships.

Spain's competition authority, the CNMC, approved the takeover with three years of conditions in the Canaries: keep capacity and frequencies above the public-service minimum, invest in the fleet, keep the workforce and the Spanish flag, and accept price monitoring. It required €25 million of investment; Baleària announced €45 million.

Journey times and fares as published by the operators, checked on 2 October 2026. One-way fare for a foot passenger without the resident discount; varies by date.

Baleària Canarias combines fast ferries (Mercedes Pinto, Pepita Castellví, Volcán de Taidía) with conventional ferries for the long crossings (Sicilia, Volcán de Tamadaba, Volcán de Tinamar), which have cabins. Visitor fares on foot, one way, from each route's page:

Route Time From
Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Las Palmas 1 h 40, up to 6 a day €60 (€62 from Tenerife)
Los Cristianos – La Gomera 50 min, daily €42
Los Cristianos – Santa Cruz de La Palma 2 h 30, daily €55
Las Palmas – Morro Jable 1 h 45, 3 a day €70
Las Palmas – Arrecife 6 h, 1–2 a day €112
Playa Blanca – Corralejo 35 min, up to 7 a day €31

It also advertises Los Cristianos–El Hierro (about 2 h 20), Las Palmas–Puerto del Rosario overnight (6 h 15, Sunday to Friday), Puerto del Rosario–Arrecife once a week and Cádiz to Las Palmas, Tenerife and Arrecife. It is the only ferry company linking the two capitals directly, Gran Canaria with Lanzarote, and La Gomera with La Palma on the same ship (about 4 h, calling at Los Cristianos, Monday to Saturday). Exact timetables only appear in its booking engine.

Compared with Fred. Olsen, it drops you in central Las Palmas rather than Agaete, though it takes 1 h 40 instead of 80 minutes; to La Gomera it costs almost the same (€42 against €39.74). Between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura on foot, Líneas Romero charges less: €20.50.

What travelling with Baleària Canarias is like

  • Check-in: on the La Gomera and La Palma routes, 20 minutes before on foot and 40 with a vehicle; between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Fuerteventura or Lanzarote, 40 minutes for everyone; on Lanzarote–Fuerteventura, 25.
  • Cabins: on the conventional ferries of around 6 hours; the Las Palmas–Arrecife or Las Palmas–Puerto del Rosario crossing saves you a night in a hotel.
  • Seats: the Pepita Castellví has extra-comfortable seats and exclusive lounges.
  • Vehicles: cars, vans, motorhomes, motorbikes and bikes, always with a passenger. A hire car is only loaded if the rental company allows it.
  • FerryBus: a bus from Santa Cruz de Tenerife for some sailings to La Gomera.

For pets there are four options (a Pet&You mat next to your seat, a pet-friendly seat, "Casitas de Calma" kennels and pet-friendly cabins), with no published prices.

The ratings in circulation date from the Armas era, before the change of owner. On Tripadvisor, the Naviera Armas listing in Las Palmas scores 1.8/5 from 429 reviews (297 "terrible", 51 "excellent"); on Trustpilot, armastrasmediterranea.com also scores 1.8/5, from 24. The Baleària Canarias profile has only two reviews: too few to judge.

The recurring complaints were delays, old or dirty ships, queues at the café, poor communication about cancellations and slow refunds; the praise went to comfortable overnight crossings and the price compared with the fast ferry. Under the new brand, the only published complaint is a timetable change without a refund. The 9.14 out of 10 that the website gives some ships is advertising.

The good

  • Only boat from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote and from La Gomera to La Palma.
  • Arrives in central Las Palmas.
  • Cabins for overnight crossings.
  • Frequencies and investment monitored by the CNMC.

The not so good

  • Reviews from the Armas era are very poor.
  • Foot-passenger luggage and change conditions not published.
  • Resident price presented as "from".
  • Brand in transition: you will still see Armas names and websites.

Who is it for?

It is your ferry company if you are going from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote with a car, if you want to sleep on board, if you are going from La Gomera to La Palma without returning to Tenerife or if you are staying in Las Palmas and heading to Santa Cruz. For Gran Canaria–Lanzarote without a car, a Binter flight is much quicker. Every other combination is in ferries and flights between the islands; if you are heading to Fuerteventura, see Corralejo, and for La Gomera, La Gomera.

Are Naviera Armas and Baleària the same company?

They are now: Baleària bought the Canary Islands business of Armas Trasmediterránea, which now runs as Baleària Canarias with the same ships. You buy tickets at baleariacanarias.com, in its app or at the port ticket offices.

How much is the Naviera Armas ferry from Tenerife to Gran Canaria?

With Baleària Canarias, from €60 each way for a visitor on foot (€62 from Tenerife to Gran Canaria), 1 h 40 between Santa Cruz and Las Palmas, up to 6 sailings a day. Exact timetables are in its booking engine.

Is there a ferry from La Gomera to Lanzarote?

Not a direct one. By sea you have to go back to Los Cristianos, cross Tenerife to Santa Cruz and take the boat to Arrecife with a change in Las Palmas (8 h 15–9 h 10 from Santa Cruz); by air, via Tenerife North or Gran Canaria.

How much luggage can you take on Naviera Armas?

With a vehicle, unlimited. For foot passengers Baleària Canarias publishes no limit: ask when you book.

Can you take pets on Naviera Armas?

Yes: a mat next to your seat, a pet-friendly seat, a kennel or a cabin, with the animal's health record and its own boarding pass. They cannot stay in the car.
