Binter Canarias is the airline that links the eight airports on the islands and the only one that flies to La Gomera. It started in 1988 as a subsidiary of Iberia, was privatised from 1999 and today its largest shareholder is Ilsamar Tenerife (49.81%). It has head offices in Telde (Gran Canaria) and La Laguna (Tenerife), and operates from Gran Canaria and Tenerife North. Its loyalty scheme is BinterMás.
The honest summary: for hopping between islands that the ferries don't link well, it is the best option, with luggage included and short flights. Its weak points are customer service when something goes wrong, and the fact that a visitor can't see their price until they go into the booking engine.
Binter fleet and flight network
It flies 26 ATR 72 turboprops and 16 Embraer E195-E2s with 132 seats in a single class, 2+2 and 79 cm of seat pitch; it was the first European customer for this Embraer and has five more on order.
Between the islands, almost everything leaves from Tenerife North and Gran Canaria. From Tenerife South only the flight to Gran Canaria is confirmed, and La Gomera and El Hierro only get flights from Tenerife North and Gran Canaria: if you land in the south, either cross the island to the northern airport or take the ferry at Los Cristianos. There is no direct Lanzarote–Fuerteventura flight.

Journey times and fares as published by the operators, checked on 2 October 2026. One-way fare for a foot passenger without the resident discount; varies by date.
Beyond the islands it flies to 21 cities in mainland Spain and the Balearics, Madeira, Porto Santo, Ponta Delgada, Agadir, Sal, Dakar, Dakhla, El Aaiún (Laayoune), Guelmim and Nouakchott, and its destinations page includes Boston and Toronto.
Binter prices: what it doesn't publish
The "€9–20" you see on its website are resident fares, with a 75% discount. A visitor pays the full fare, which is quite a lot higher, and Binter doesn't publish it outside its booking engine, so there is no reliable figure per route. Search your date on its website or app and compare with Canaryfly and with the ferry.
Binter hand luggage and checked bags
- Hand luggage: 8 kg plus a handbag. On the ATR the case can't exceed 45×35×25 cm; on the Embraer, 52×40×25 cm. If it is bigger, it is taken from you at the foot of the aircraft steps.
- Checked: 20 kg included on inter-island flights, even on the cheapest fare. BinterMás Gold and Silver members and the FlexiMás fare get an extra 10 kg.
- Check-in: online from 7 days before; at the airport it closes 30 minutes before inter-island flights. Sizes and special cases: https://www.bintercanarias.com/en/information/hand-luggage
On inter-island flights you get water, a chocolate (with an alternative in summer), sweets and a wet wipe, with a gluten-free option; the "gourmet snack" is only on domestic and international flights.
Binter reviews: what travellers say
On Trustpilot it scores 3.2/5 from 235 reviews, split almost exactly in two: 46% five stars and 46% one star. People praise the quick check-in, the clean aircraft, the crew, the sweet treat on board and the punctual short hops. The complaints are about mishandled bags, communication during delays and cancellations, and customer-service follow-up.
Canaryfly, the alternative
Canaryfly has been flying since 2012, is based at Gran Canaria airport and operates five 68–70-seat ATR 72-500s, codesharing with Air Europa. It links Tenerife North with Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma and El Hierro, and Gran Canaria with Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma; it does not fly to La Gomera or Tenerife South.
Its cheapest fare, "Con lo Puesto", includes only hand luggage (8 kg, 45×35×25 cm, plus a bag under the seat); a 20 kg suitcase costs €10 and choosing a seat €2 (€3 for XL). Above it come De LowCos, FullEquip and FullEquip+, where sports equipment can replace the suitcase. Phone: 928 01 85 00 (07:30–21:30). Compare the final price with Binter once the bag is added (https://www.canaryfly.es/en/fares-information).

Who is Binter for?
Fly Binter if you are going from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, from Tenerife to Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, or to La Palma and El Hierro without a car: on those routes the boat takes from 2 h 20 to more than 8 hours. It makes no sense between Tenerife and La Gomera (the 50-minute ferry drops you in the capital, and the airport is 34 km from it) or between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where there is no flight and the ferry takes 25–35 minutes.
By sea, see Fred. Olsen, Baleària Canarias (formerly Naviera Armas) and Líneas Romero; the full comparison is in ferries and flights between the islands. If you are heading to a small island, start with El Hierro or La Palma.
How much hand luggage can you take on Binter?
8 kg plus a handbag. The case can't exceed 45×35×25 cm on the ATRs or 52×40×25 cm on the Embraers; if it doesn't fit, it is taken from you at the foot of the aircraft steps.
How much does a Binter flight between the islands cost?
Binter only publishes resident fares (about €9–20). The visitor price, which is higher, only appears in its booking engine.
How late can you check in with Binter?
Online, from 7 days before. At the airport, check-in for inter-island flights closes 30 minutes before departure.
What is Binter's Airpass Explorer?
Inter-island flights at €40 each for anyone arriving in the Canaries on a Binter flight: 3 to 8 direct flights without repeating a route, bought at least 7 days before the first one.
What food do you get on Binter?
On inter-island flights, water, a chocolate and sweets. The gourmet snack is for domestic and international flights.
